Sea Turtles Oman
The Sultanate of Oman is known for some exquisite beaches with many species of sea turtles. These beaches are especially important considering the loggerhead turtle. The sea beaches and offshore regions are natural habitats of sea turtles. The coastal and offshore regions of Oman witness the movements of the migratory turtles through the year. These beaches have international significance as it harbors the wide varieties of sea turtles.
There were many surveys of turtles in Oman and it is estimated that about 23000 turtles were identified and tagged during the periods 1977 to 1986. Green, Olive Ridley, Hawksbill, Leatherback and loggerhead are few sea turtles nesting in the Oman coasts. Ra's al Hadd is famous for Green turtles, Masirah Island for the loggerhead and Daymaniyat Islands for the hawksbill turtles.
